Responding to the rising costs in food, heat, shelter, and transportation, The Philadelphia Foundation created the Basic Human Needs Fund in 2008 in order to serve the immediate and urgent needs of our region’s most vulnerable populations. By challenging donors and the broader community, the Foundation raised and matched contributions which were distributed throughout the five-county Philadelphia region for energy assistance, food assistance, shelter and transportation. This special briefing from nonprofit leaders will highlight both the emerging needs of the health and human services sectors and the impact that the generosity of local philanthropists has had on the region's most vulnerable populations.

Home gives viewers a glimpse into a day in the life of Felicia Bond, a thirty-six year old mother of six, who has a job, but doesn’t have a home.  Through footage of daily life, as well as reflective interviews, the documentary explores the constant struggle of dealing with the everyday challenges of life, while dealing with the additional physical and mental challenges of living in a homeless shelter.  The result is a revealing film that shatters the stereotype of what it means to be homeless.

The Philadelphia Foundation

The Philadelphia Foundation has been committed to improving the quality of life in Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, and Philadelphia counties for 90 years, through funds established by our donors.

As a public charity community foundation, we manage more than $270 million in assets in more than 775 charitable funds, maximizing the strategic impact of charitable contributions.

The Philadelphia Foundation's first obligation is to support the intentions of donors who have created funds. Individuals, families, businesses and organizations establish permanent charitable funds that help our region meet the challenges of changing times. We invest and administer these funds and award the distributions as grants and scholarships.

Our work is overseen by a volunteer board of leading citizens and run by professionals with expertise in the region’s needs.
